She began graduate school at the University of Hawaii, then moved to North Carolina and completed her MS degree in Speech and Language Pathology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1983. Dru has been a practicing speech pathologist in North Carolina since that time. She began her career as a speech pathologist working with the hearing impaired and has maintained some proficiency in sign language. She has been trained in PROMPT. Her experience includes; public schools, home health, Headstart programs, rehabilitation centers, hospitals, and private practice.

Dru specializes in treating disorders of, articulation, voice, fluency, swallowing/feeding, and language. For the last ten years her focus has been on early intervention. She believes that addressing speech and language weaknesses at an early age can have dramatic results. Good speech and language patterns can be established prior to the development of habits which interfere with effective communication. Dru is licensed by the board of North Carolina and has her certificate of clinical competence from the American Speech Language Association.
